I tried to share my calcs for beam stress in my trailer, but for some reason rv.net thinks I doing a security violation and won't let me post them. Hmmm.
I ran some calculations on the stresses that would be present in the beam with the 2x6 underneath it. The beam stress with added 2x6, the 3rd axle and 1700 pounds of motorcycles on the back is 30% less than the stress in the stock beam at max stock GVW.
Adding the 2x6 under the existing beam makes a huge difference in strength. Ix goes from 129 to 322 in^4. In fact, a 2x6 is probably overkill. A 2x4 would probably be fine. I'll use a 2x6 because I'll run it out the back of the trailer to hold the fold up deck I want to use.
