If you plan to spend time in the eastern Sierra, check internet and cellphone service coverage. It is probably pretty good in Mammoth, but spotty to nonexistent in some other places. Mono County libraries have wifi which works from outside even when they are closed, Mammoth library internet services are very good, and Inyo County libraries were just coming online last time I checked.
If you will be outside California, check that your health coverage is good. I have Kaiser and I remember seeing something about them having limits of a couple of months for how long you can "visit" other areas; sorry, cannot locate that exact info right now. I was injured in a fall in AZ while on a trip a few years ago and Kaiser covered everything including ambulance and several nights in hospital. Other carriers/HMO's might not be so generous.
It sounds like you'll be OK with your camper skills. The new lifestyle, especially as a single and not part of an on-site family, will take some adjusting. Expect that and you'll be fine.
