air bags strictly for comfort

TW and F'ver sit level with no add on's. I am strictly looking for comfort measures as my DW has some neck back issues from time to time. We added the MOR Ryde pin box which helped alot. But I wondered if there was either a schock or air bags that would help improve the ride during towing. Part of my issue is this is also my daily vechile and i don't want to stiffen the ride for daily driving.

  • we are not opposed to changing pin box or hitch if that would improve the ride. Realisticly my wife has no complaint but i look for improvment for her. I currently use a reese 16k sliding hitch would changing this be a better solution.
  • I drive two different school buses each week, one with air suspension and one with springs. The one with air rides harsher than the one with springs. I will say that they are from different manufactures. JME.
  • I found my trucks rode better empty with the minimum allowed PSI in the bags. Of course they were/are older trucks...
  • I have the pac bags,2800 lbs of pin, put them on to help more with the ride.I found they really help smooth out the ride on concrete surfaces, but you have to pretty well run them empty with no load, recommended 10 psi is too rough. To do it again for ride i would go more for a air ride hitch.
  • If anything, I would say the airbags would make the ride worse. I've added them to get the ride height back to normal, but no improvement in comfort.

At least for mine, the Air Lift bags have a travel limit. The bags will bottom out about 2 inches before the actual spring does, so part of the installation is to install extensions behind the jounce bouncers to limit the spring travel and prevent damaging the air bags. Some brands put the jounce bouncer inside the air bag. When you hit that bouncer, you feel it, and it can happen even with residual air in the bags.

I realize you just got the Mor-Ryde, but I am super impressed with the Trailair Tri-Glide pin box that came with my trailer. I've had the 5th Airborne on the last, but this one really smooths out the edges.
  • RV.net doesn't host images. You have to host them somewhere. Services like photobucket work well, and they also have the proper IMG tag so all you have to do is copy and paste the link for the picture.
