Air ride hitches

Hello Folks!
Just looking for opinions on products like the Trail Saver and other air ride hitches. I'm trying to understand how much smoother they really are than a more traditional Reese hitch.

We have a 5th airborne pin box on our 37' Cameo and are wondering how the ride would be with the hitch upgrade.

Any product experiences would be appreciated!

Thanks so much!
Tom

Air pin boxes are a waste of money on a heavy trailer.
    Why?
I always ask the owner when I see one -how much PSI are you running?-
because at around 80-90 # they are practically a solid, vibration damper at that point.
They have too little volume and surface area,Air hitches are a better solution but quite heavy , the E.T is 700 pounds,
They are a wonderful hitch if you can swing it ,my trailer no longer swung up and down in a 'teeder totter' motion but now moves in a horizontal plane ,alway on a level .
It also can be used as a aid to unhitch, pull pins on landing gear and make contact with the ground ,air out unlock and drive out.
Reminds me onboard air is another expense .
    good luck

I am not saying anything bad about air ride hitches!

I have the TrailAir air bag kingpin with the TriGlide. I can watch the RV float above the truck bed in the rear view mirror. Properly inflated with my 4,500# pin weight I am about 75psi.

I have never towed with a AirBorn air bag kingpin. But just looking at the geometry of it there is no way it can work as well as the TriGlide. JMHO
  • We have a Hensley TS3 air bag hitch. We get no noticeable chucking, bucking,or jerking with this set up. As others have mentioned, one forgets the 5er is behind you. More often than not, the only way you know the 5er is back there, is by looking in the mirrors. These hitches are very expensive, but worth the price if you value a solid and complete hook-up and a comfortable towing experience.

I am NOT affiliated in any way what so ever (other than being a retail customer) with the Trailersaver company.

Best of luck with your choice of hitch.

  • TS3 hitch, Demco Glide pin box and Mor/Ryde IS suspension on the trailer and truck. The ride is pretty smooth. The road has to be pretty bad before it get rough. We still find some road sections that we drop down to 35 or 40 mph and turn on the emergency flashers.

The TS3 weighs over 400#, so it is not one to be removed very often.

  • We have the Hensley Trailer Saver BD3 and consider it one of the best investments, along with the MorRyde suspension, that we've made to protect and preserve our fifth wheel that we purchased new. We've never experienced any bucking, chucking, jerking, whatever else can happen with other hitches. I forget the trailer is behind us as our ride is exactly the same towing or not -- very comfortable! I have a bad back and I would know if it wasn't!

Between the hitch and the suspension, we have a very smooth ride and we can leave things sitting out in the trailer and they don't move. I've accidentally left the dog's water bowl full of water sitting on the floor and over a 100 miles later discovered not a drop was spilled.

Neither the Hensley nor the MorRyde were cheap but we consider them both to be excellent investments. Worth every penny!
