Airtbs or Vorblades - Anyone tried them?

Hi All,

Been doing a good bit of research on each of these products. Fully expecting that in the life of the average 5th wheel, the savings in fuel will not repay the investment cost.

However, there are lots of reports of noticeable increases in trailer stability (crosswinds, semi's speeding by, etc.). Also reports of them considerably improving the driving characteristics of motor homes.

Here are the links:

Vorblades

Airtabs

While certainly not lots, on my 6 hour drive today, I did notice them on several semi's.

Anyone have any experience with either?

IMHO, stability enhancement is the main driver. Any fuel savings secondary...

The Vorblades say they shouldn't be mounted on flexible roofs, so that seems like that would eliminate most 5th wheels.

It looks like if you drove enough miles they could be worth it. It would just depend on your increase in fuel mileage lived up to what they claim.

Humm....interesting I did not see that they were not to be installed on flexable roofs. I wonder what they mean by "flexble".

In either case I would expect to put them in place with the adhesive and them anchor them with a SS woodscrew into the plywood roof.....much like skylights, vents. etc. are done on our roof.

I am not sure our roofs qualify as flexable. They certainly are a flexable membrane glued to a rigid wooden base. The entire roof is pretty sturdy and inflexable. My guess is they are talking about a roofing material that would buffet up and down...IMHO without being anchored, they could loosen the glue bond between the rubber/pvc and the wood on our roofs.....

  • I also noticed where the Vorblades are EPA Smartway Verified could not find a similar reference on the airtabs....
