He did mention that but it needs to be pointed out that they didn't use an older flat nose fiver. They used a half ton X-lite type Couger fifth wheel with deep relief scallops in the nose to accommodate the short bed truck. This feature that Andersen claimed is more of a feature of the fifth wheel and not their hitch...unless I totally misunderstand (which, I dont think I am misunderstanding)

They make a rail version of the Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel hitch that's about 40 ish lbs... That version can be turned front or back to work in a fifth wheel rails. If turned towards the cab and mounted in the rails the ball is closer to the back rail...if turned to the rear of the truck the. The ball is closer to the back rail...letting the short bed and Fiver work great.

I think that is a great idea, and a very nice hitch. Andersen is making a real name for themselves in the towing industry, I am beginning to get very interested in them.

Maybe somebody will make an aluminum 5th wheel hitch that doesn't require He-man or a lift to get it out of the bed.

I am curious about this because I have heard a lot of people talk about wear and tear on the landing gear lifting the coupler above the ball...we should be talking about 2-3 inches max... Right? If that's the case then why the concern? Is the landing gear incapable of lifting 2-3 inches reliably?

Those of us with TT's and power tongue jacks often have to let the Jack travel 6-10 inches or more to couple and uncouple.

The only drawback that I see is that with my normal 5er hitch I can be close in height and close in side to side position and I'm hooked up. When I unhook I just take some weight off the truck and pull out. I don't have to wear my landing gear or me out getting in and out of the truck or raising it up off the ball. Other than that it looks like a great design and the weight is great too.

I think I'm just about convinced ... going shopping soon!

The Andersen Ultimate hitch has been out for a couple years if not mistaken, (or close to it)...I heard about it first on the cummins forum. When the 13's started hitting the market with the GN/5er hitch prep package, Ram in there infinite wisdom didn't have any picture frame adapters out there to where we could use the prep package....They were harder than hen's teeth to find. Then the Andersen Ultimate 5er hitch was revealed to us by a member on the cummins forum. With a Reese drop in ball and the Andersen hooked to it, the hitch is connected to the frame via the drop in ball.....More than a few use this hitch on the cummins forum and only negative I heard was where it could wear on the truck bed some, but there was a way to fix this. So some have been towing with it for 2yrs now and I've not heard of any issues and some are towing some pretty heavy 5er's with this hitch.

I didn't get my truck until May 9th of 13' and the picture frame adapter was STILL hard to find...I waited due to the fact that I already had a hitch and wasn't towing anywhere at the time...BUT, again, I would have purchased the Andersen Ultimate 5er hitch if a few other things hadn't fallen in place for me the way they did.

Until I read something bad about it, (which I haven't), then I may change my mind, but so far it appears to be a viable option when selecting a 5th wheel hitch.. AND it IS considered a 5th wheel hitch due to the way it hitches to the 5er and the base is carrying all the pin weight..not a GN.
