Anchoring Storm door panels

All,

I had some storm door panels made by RVDoorBuddy.com. They arrived, fit perfectly into the screen openings. However, my particular screen door has deeper recesses than they plan for with the hardware provided. There are two sets of grooves in the recesses that are in the perfect location, one is right next to the panel the other more visible in the photo is a bit too far out, and I was thinking that if I had some sort of "shim" to slide in there to secure the panels in place, that would work fine. Almost like what is used to hold photo frame backing in the frames... Can any of you suggest what to use? I'm thinking something along the lines of wooden tongue depressors, etc, only something black, and plastic.

  • I'm not sure I understand the problem correctly, but if it is a matter of the groove being too deep, maybe the same "spline" material used to hold the screen in the doors would work to hold the acrylic.

Thats exactly what I am talking about doing! Inserting a spline into the groove to hold the panels in.

What to use for the spline is what I am trying to ask...
  • Go to a big box hardware store and look at the weather stripping. They have all kinds and sizes.
  • I made mine from plexiglass and they fit on outside of screen door and I can still close outer door with them in place. I hold them on with 3M Command Strips (heavy duty large size). I can remove plexi. for cleaning and reinstall them.
