a gremlin is not going to jump in your bed whil your driving, twist te lock open, pull the handle, and then lift the fiver up and over the ball.
Can someone fiddle with it while you are stopped? Yes...but the operator should do a visual inspection of the rig before driving again.

Exactly...I always leave someone with the rig when stopping for breaks. Also I quick visual inspection, which I always do at a stop, visually check tires, latches, connections, etc. Easy to see if hitch is locked. Also I can see it from my rearview mirror.
It's a non issue. Hitch weighs 35 lbs. After setting up my 5er, I remove and store the hitch in my 5er's basement. Takes less than 5 minutes.
