andersen hitch lock

...for those with the andersen fifth wheel hitch...how r u locking ur fifth wheel king pin...thx..
  • I agree, this is not a problem.

You should be doing a pre tow walk around inspection anyway. If the handle is in and twisted locked...it's locked!

a gremlin is not going to jump in your bed whil your driving, twist te lock open, pull the handle, and then lift the fiver up and over the ball.

Can someone fiddle with it while you are stopped? Yes...but the operator should do a visual inspection of the rig before driving again.

    Thanks!

    Jeremiah
  • Much ado about nothing... Couplers not going to magically jump off the ball. Need to stop thinking traditional 5er hitch. T-handle is also completely visible from rear view mirror. I wouldn't use a lock even if there were provisions for one on that hitch. Not worth the effort IMO.
  • I think he is referring to the Walmart/restaurant problem of someone pulling the release! Trailer is not going to jump off the ball until one hits a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad bump. Chris
  • What do you mean by locking the king pin? Please be more specific. The release lever locks by turning the handle when coupled.
  • I unscrewed the part the cable goes into the aluminum block and set it up in a milling machine and milled a hole through the side and put a pad lock through the hole. Then got a flat plate 6" in dia. And welded an old 2 5/16" ball on it, so no way to set it down on another ball or unscrew the set screws that hold the plate tite.
  • I think he was referring to release lever, again no prevision to do that! Chris
