You are always going to run into those that want the plug between the wheel well and the tailgate or between the wheel well and the front of the truck bed...
Either place is fine as long as you mount in the recessed area...
You should have enough length on the fifth wheel cable to fit either place. My fifth wheel setup went to the standard 7-way connection near the truck rear trailer hitch hookup without any issues...
