If it was me, I'd mount just inside the tailgate, if there's room. Easier to get too. If you mount ahead of the rear wheel, your might need a ladder just to plug in the cord because there trucks are getting so tall. When I had a truck with 5th wheel, I had the plug ahead of the rear wheel well. I hated it. Every time it rained you had to reach over the bed rail to plug in the cord and you'd wet. Just something to think about.
