They can, and do. Problem is is that they leave no "safety margin" on ST tires and simply give a max weight and speed rate them. With zero margin almost =anything= that stresses the tire will send it to failure. I'd be willing to bet that if you cut apart a bunch of ST tires, then a bunch of P or LT tires of much lesser ratings, you'd see near-identical construction, but because the P/LT tires are meant for passenger use, the ratings are =much= lower. Just speculation on my part... What I can't figure out is why a tire company with a good highway LT tire doesn't re-brand that exact tire as an ST, bump up the load spec 10-15% and drop the speed rating to +/-70 mph. They'd likely kill the ST market. Makes way too much sense, so it'll never be done, I'm sure.

Maybe, we as new purchasers of RV's need to include as part of the deal, the dealer will remove the tires and replace with brand new. The dealer can send the take offs back to the factory who can then reinstall and be used for the next new RV delivery. I've also seen more than my share of RV transporters dragging new RV's down the interstate at 80+ mph.

We certainly see a lot of that on I-80 as transporters are in a rush to deliver new trailers.

I think a lot of the problem stems from the specs the camper manufacturers use, not the tires themselves.

Case in point - camper in my sig is 7300# loaded. It came from factory with a gvwr of 10,000#. Has 5300# axles, and D rated tires. A well speced trailer, IMO.

I've seen newer rigs, longer, with a 10,000# gvwr. Weigh just shy of 10000# loaded. Came from factory with 4300# axles, and D rated tires. Which safety margin would you want?

Until manufactures start specing axles/tires with a significant safety margin, vs the bare minimum of what will work - we are going to continually run in to these issues.

I too had two blowouts on our last trip a few weeks ago. $1900 in damage. Switched over to Hercules tires and so far, so good.

Over 25,000 miles on original Tow Max. Hit a sharp pothole at 65 mph on US 39 in Illinois. Left front TT tire threads started separating and tire swelled up like a balloon. Did not blow or leak. Trailer is a 12,000 # toyhauler with 16"E range tires. I replaced all 4 due to mileage. Would have put TowMax back on if they were available. In my mind, the tires performed excellent.

Maybe the trailer was driven faster than the maximum rated speed during the delivery process and the damage is now showing up as you tow the trailer. Not a fault of the tire.
