Another question for the weight police!!

Am I good or way off base?

Trailer Life says you can tow a 12,100# 5th wheel. Get yourself a diesel and it goes up 3,000#.

Looks doable but close on payload. The 1965 pin is dry weight and will grow a bit + add the hitch weight. Hard to know exact numbers until you put it on a scale.

I couldn't imagine hauling an additional 2500 lbs of 'stuff'. Fully loaded, ready to head out, I only have about 900 lbs of 'stuff'. I haul with about 15 gals of water, and that is included in my 900 lb additive.

Now, I will say 5er's have a huge storage compartment, so maybe you will be tempted to fill it, I dunno. But I suspect you will be fine. Best to weigh the truck, full of fuel, with passengers etc so you know how much payload you have left over. If you added 1000 lbs of stuff, you will be at 11000 lbs, and 20 percent of that is 2200. That leaves you 700 and change for passengers etc..

I hear all the time on here how you will add thousands of pounds of stuff but we have never had that happen.
We weigh in at 800 lbs over what the stick says the trailer weighs. That's including everything we need, including water, to hit the road. It wouldn't be that much but I've done projects that have added a couple of hundred pounds.
I think you will be just fine.

Famous last words. It is very easy to wond up with 2500 pounds worth of stuff.
How much does your truck weigh loaded ready to travel? Subtract that from the GVWR will give you payload capacity. The pin weight is also a dry number and not really worthwhile. 20% of the trailers GVWR would be far more realistic. Will it work? Run the numbers again using more realistic stats and see.
