That really sucks!
I would file a claim with REESE for sure.
I get harassed all the time when I tell of the many TV's I see with bed damage and most all are REESE. There is a reason for this. I don't have the answer.
I would install a B&W because you will never be able to trust the hitch you have anymore.
I know this is not the same hitch as the OP's.
