I've had a Reese 20K Signature hitch that I've used since 07, towing a 16,300# 5er though the mountains and have never had an issue...Before that I had a Reese 16K slider for about 7 yrs, and never an issue....That's 2 Reese hitches for 14 years and never an issue..I've not read about Reese hitches failing, but have led a sheltered life I guess...guess you should have taken pictures and immediately gotten in touch with Reese about the issue. Hope you get the problem resolved
