I had a 15K Reese slider hitch that I have used since around 2001. In 2010 I dropped my Jayco on the bed and blamed myself because I must have gotten complacent and missed something even though I would have sworn I checked everything. From then on I personally looked at the jaws to ensure they were locked around the king pin. I bought a heavier fifth wheel last year and was moving it in the yard and was making a slow left turn when the fifth wheel once again dropped on my bed. This time I know without a doubt it was hitched correctly. I inspected the hitch and the jaws were still closed and locked. I bought a curt 24K hitch and sold the Reese to a mechanic friend who was familiar with the failures. He later told me he repaired it and replaced a part he said was worn and suspected it allowed the jaws to come open. He had complete confidence in the repaired hitch and still uses it. I am very skeptical of the Reese hitch.
