Any common sense logic on how the pins/clips face.

My training as a charter bus driver was to check & double check.

A mandatory circle check was always required.... I applied this to all of my RV towing years. The check was not only up close but also involved stepping back and looking at the general picture for loose or missing items.

Yes I did once find a missing pin...which I attributed to my own stupidity and not pranksters.

You can never be too safe or in too much of a rush not to put safety first.
