I used to count 10 to get to 6.8L and was still happy.
The last 6-cylinder I overhauled had spark plugs and and made 900hp.
It displaced 35L (per cylinder) and made it's power at 300 rpm. So yes, I do think inline 6-cylinders have their place... :)
