I have CDL for 29 years and Like others have said if you have any plans to go off road or some guestionable camping then get a 4x4, if only roads then 2x4 will work. I have a 2wd now but years back when younger used to go to pismo ad go on the sand and 4wd was needed. Many years ago had one camping trip with a surprise snow storm in tehacapi CA. and next day went to leave after the snow melted, it caused a small sink hole between the truck and trailer a d did not know it and when we started to pull out trailer sank to the axles. I spent 3 hours digging out the trailer wheels and putting rock down under truck wheels to get traction, if I had 4wd I would have been fine. It's all about what you plan or doing or might do with your rig.
