Anybody else do this

Since I already own a fifthwheel I can't afford to buy a new toy hauler. I need some way to haul my Polaris Ranger and four wheelers and something to sleep in instead of a tent. I finally decided to buy a 7x16 enclosed cargo trailer. I can haul my vehicles and other camping equipment in an enclosed trailer to prevent theft and have something to set up my cots in. I can easily heat an enclosed trailer better than a tent. I can also use the trailer for everyday hauling and general projects. Just wondering if anyone else does this.

  • sounds good! off the ground, more secure, hard roof over your head :)
    YUP--it works!
  • Using an enclosed trailer as an inexpensive toy hauler is very popular. Here is link to help you with doing a conversion:

We went from a toy hauler to a truck camper pulling an enclosed trailer. We had too many toys and did not want to get a bigger toy hauler that would limit where we could camp. It allows us to take only the camper with us and leave the toys at home or attach the trailer and bring along whatever we want.
  • This is my 6x10 V-nose trailer. A minimalist approach to what you are considering. This just works with my Honda Big Ruckus and may give you an idea of the trailer you would need for your items.

  • I've seen folks do just that many times. Actually, they turn those cargo trailers into quite the comfortable RV's.

In our tent days, we had a Chevy S-10 pick-up truck with a shell. We pitched the tent, threw all our stuff in tent and then slept in the bed of the truck. I found a foam mattress from an old hide-a-bed, cut it out for the wheel wells, and we slept on that for years. So, a utility trailer is a step up from our ancient primitive lifestyle. Go for it! and have fun!
  • I know a guy who did that with his telescopes. he was quite comfortable in his cargo trailer. it should work for you too.
  • Many have done that, beats sleeping outside in the cold.
