Anyone Use an Outdoor Stove?

Just wondering as I am packing for a trip.
I have a plug-in for the propane, but not sure I would even use the stove outside.

  • All the time.

We use it to boil water for corn on the cob and seafood, and also to fry bacon or fish. If you do that inside, you smell it for a month.
  • We rarely use the stove in the trailer, always cook outside, even in the rain. We just move things under the awning.
  • Have carried an original Coleman for years, then moved to a propane one. Still carry it on about 50% of our trips.

New TT came with a propane connection and a grill. Haven't set it up yet and tried it. Might not because I can carry a propane stove, lantern, propane grill and propane canisters in a smaller space and lighter weight than the new TT grill.

Most of the time, it is just the two of us - so a small portable grill the size of a laptop works for us. Even on the yearly trip with five grandchildren - we don't use the grill that much. Hot dogs and burgers really don't take that long over a wood fire or charcoal.

The DW being a pyromaniac fits right in with the grandsons on that trip.

I love to get up and fix breakfast outdoors, and dinner as the sun is getting low in the sky. DW also loves it when I do that, and cleanup also.

Use an outdoor grill all the time. It has its own 1lb propane canister however... Have never used the external trailer propane connection for anything.

The outside propane burner stove assy that came with both my trailers have never been opened up - sitting in garage...

  • Since we have a tear drop and the galley is in the rear, yes. We also have a small portable grill that plugs into a gas port in the side of the tear that gets used with great regularity. There is a 25# bottle with a two stage regulator on the tongue that feeds the three burner cook top, water heater and the grill on a 10' hose. The grill is also used at home.
  • Had an outdoor kitchen on our TT. Used it all the time. My camp stove uses high pressure so I cannot plug mine into the quick connect on the 5er. If I get another stove, I plan to use the quick connect. Usually the only time I use the indoor stove is rainy & in the cold morning. That Quick connect port is low pressure so you may have to take the regulator off any device used on it.
  • yes...we always use ours. If it is wet or if we want to make a quick hot drink before we go early morning fishing, then we use the indoor burners
