Appliance warranties

We're considering buying a used 2014 Coachmen Chaparral. We were told by the dealer that the Coachmen warranty can't be transferred since we aren't the original owner. I was wondering about other warranties that come with the unit, such as the Dometic refrigerator, the hot water heater, and the warranty on the roof. Can these be transferred to a new owner?
  • Just curious about an issue here. If the original equipment is supposed to have a two year manufacturers warranty on the fridge, stove, water heater etc. effective from the "in service" date to the 1st purchaser is an extended warranty provider going to pick up the warranty on a product that hasn't been in service for two years? There has got to be some real technicalities involved in this warranty coverage question and I would be very cautious with any purchases from an extended warranty provider.

    Cheers!

  • txdutt has a very good point, make sure of that. With that said I purchased an used 08 in 08 and non of the warrenties transferred. It seems thats just the way all the places do business. I purchased the Good Sam extended warrenty to cover any items that would go wrong.
  • verify the unit doesn't have a salvage title--you could be asking for trouble if it does--from an extended warranty as well as insurability for comp/coll covgs
  • Buy an extended warranty that covers the entire unit, end to end. We got ours from Good Sams, but I am sure there are others available, especially for a new unit.
  • could he provide an extended warranty that would cover the appliances, etc.?
  • I know it sounds funny, but here is what happened. The dealer owns a rv collision & repair business. He bought the 5th wheel when it was damaged during transport. He made the repairs & is now selling it. He repaired a 5th wheel we own & I trust him. He will guarantee everything he worked on but not bumper to bumper.
  • You would have to check with each component mfg. as to their warranty policy.

I would also be in direct contact with Coachmen as to their warranty policy.

    A new 'used' 2014 and no warranty.........pass
