OR does use a cable slide system. Its main advantage is not that slides can be operated individually, but the cable system does not require a driveshaft for the slides. The main beam of the RV does not have a large hole drilled in it to accommodate the slide mechanism. A smaller lighter main beam can be used resulting in substantial weight savings.Open Range RV's are 1500-2000 lbs. lighter than a comparable model.
For the record the salesman was not totally blowing smoke. There are hydraulic slide systems that all slides move at once. The slides can be operated independently by using bypass valves switches etc. but typically the slides all move together
