I wonder if I took my wheels in to be balanced if they would just hub balance them or use a pin plate as required for Lug Centric balancing.. Not knowing what a pin plate was I looked it up and a set of four is around $1500! Which is why I don't think I have seen them at a tire shop...
So consequently my trailer tires and wheels are never balanced. However I never got less than 4-5 years and thousands of miles on a set of trailer tires even though they were never balanced.
My deduction is balancing is always best, but not absolutely necessary.
