Artic Fox 27-5L or Dutchmen Komfort 2920FRK

Soon to be Rookie RV'er signing in.

We're (Me, wife and dog) are planning to live and travel full time for the first year or two. Then seasonal for extended periods 3 to 4 months).

The plan is to get a Ford F-250 Super cab 6.7 twin turbo diesel to tow it.

I like the lay out and washer/dryer option on the Komfort. More important though is which unit is more reliable and will last longer.

Any advice good, bad or ugly is appreciated for this newbie/wannabe rv'er

You really are not comparing apples to apples. Your comparison is more like apples to oranges. The Fox is a wonderful product from a family owned corp. Not a big corporation. If your buying a truck anyhow, forget the F250. Go for a 1 ton SRW and tow happy.

Artic Fox is not backed by big corporation, nor offer nationwide dealer network. They are a small low volume producer of nice trailers. They are not bullit proof. Having good friend as former dealer, all the things you mentioned made them difficult to get warranty work done. According to him they are just as problematic as other brands. Family owned is nice, but highly capitalized is better, with more resources when it comes to innovations !

  • Definitely can't speak for the Komfort. We are on our 2nd Arctic Fox--had an 03 and currently an 07. Our 07 has been about 27,000 miles--biggest trips to the northern Rockies, B.C.(Muncho Lake) and to Florida, from So. Calif. We needed a 5'vr that was durable--that once you got a off of the super highways and got out in the boonies, it could take it. Northwood Manu. makes the Trlr. for the camper as well as the camper--they come with shock absorbers and leaf springs as standard equipment-they are a standard 4 seasons camper. They have a great Forum you can ask questions and get answers from owners--you can phone their factory in La Grande, Or. and get answers. They definitely make an effort to take care of their customers. Lars
  • Yes I was looking at the 2013 Artic Fox model. Damn that's a kick in the coconuts about the pin weight. I was prepared to travel and live close by a dealer at first to see if there were any problems that needed to be fixed.

There's a dealer in north central Florida that sells the Komfort models.

That Artic Fox seems like it's bullet proof and last long though from most of what i read on these forums.
  • What year 27-5L? The current floor plan is different (and in my opinion better) then the old one.

If the current one, the pin weight is too high on the 2013/2014 for a F250

Beyond that, I would rate (any) Arctic Fox better then a Komfort. That being said, Foxes are not common in your area. I think that Foxes are better suited to long-term/full time use then Komfort. We looked at EVERY brand there is (or just about -was-) when we went with both our current Fox, and our previous one.

If we were buying TODAY, it would probably be a 27-5L
  • Based on floorplan alone I like the Komfort. More kitchen counter space and the bed in the master is on a slide, much more room when getting dressed.
