1. Yes they replace the landing gear. The forward jacks are larger and serve as the landing gear. They have to be part of the leveling system or the system can't level. All 6 jacks are in motion during automatic leveling.
2. No need for foldaway, there is sufficient room for the full stroke of the jack when mounted to the outside of the frame. They do not go up into the belly, the jack assembly is mounted to the outside of the frame as shown in the link.
3. They have enough extension to level the trailer on reasonably level site. If the jacks can't extend far enough, you get an "overstroke" notification and you simply add pads underneath those jacks and hit "Auto" again.
