Awning care

avvidclif1 has it right.
Wet it with Tilex, roll it up for 30-45 minutes, open and rinse.
Do Not use with a painted aluminum siding.

Never had a problem with 3 different awnings on 3 different 5th wheels.
I start at one end....spraying the awning from underneath...walking backwards....spray till you are done. Roll it up....20-30 minutes.....unroll......start spraying as you walk under the awning outwards. Never got anything on the 5th wheel....let it dry....looks like new.
This works for me....but whatever works for anybody else is fine.

My problem exactly,I have said many many times on these boards bleach bad bad bad ,use instead hydrogen peroxide ,you get it cheap in the laundry aisle (eco or green bleach) will not destroy stiching rubber vinly and your clothes.
Spray it on and when you unroll the awning at the next campsite - cleaner then new ,even unsticks sap and other organic gluely stuff ,no scrubbing just hoes it off.
I sprauy it on and roll up the awning and leave it all winter ,after 10 years no damage.

I got a large bottle of Tilex Mold and Mildrew (16oz IIRC)cleaner. Dumped it into a hand sprayer and added water to make up a gallon. Sprayed it down liberally and rolled it up for about 30 minutes. Rolled it back down and hosed it off, 90% gone so the remainder of the mix got sprayed on it and rolled up again. That did it. I couldn't believe how clean it got it. I had tried the awning cleaner stuff found at rv shops, light use of power washer, and had just about given up.

^^those are nice. way more innovative than what i was imagining.

Don't like the idea of using bleach in a cleaner for an awning. But if it works for you, fine. :) Oxy clean is a good substitute for bleach.

does anyone make an awning cover? i was just wondering for storage purposes. maybe keep the moisture out?

Just cleaned mine, this past weekend. Bucket with dish soap; hand held scrub brush; ladder and a whole lotta elbow grease. Looks like new again. I'm sure there's a better way, but it worked for me. :)

Oh yeah... almost forgot... you will take a "bath" when doing the underside, so it's a shirtless project on a nice, sunny day. lol)

About 1/2 spray bottle of water....few good squirts of Dawn....1/4 bottle of bleach. Start at one end and spray the awning...work your way back till done. Roll it up. Much easier then rubbing with Magic Erasers.
Did mine a few weeks ago after the winter rains and snow...came out looking like new.
