One tip make sure the underside surface you are adhering the strip to is squeaky clean (Acetone) and do it on a warm day. The tape on the backside is not that great so prep is important.
I bought the multi-color one. Kids get a kick out of it.
I did exactly that, small hole under the molding strip into a cabinet, then 12v and the remote, works, looks great. I just went with white but the remote let's you dim it. I really like it and it was super easy to install. By doing it that way you can use the lights with the awning in or out.
