Awning Out of Alignment

The material on my main awning is out of wack so that when it rolls up (electric awning) the brackets don't close over fully. When open you can clearly see that the material is not aligned from where it mounts in the track on the trailer to the track on the slide roller.

I tried, like a fool, to slide the material in the track thinking it might be simple ... wrong!

Anyone have any ideas on how to do this? The dealer had to replace the awning material shortly after purchase and I don't think it was ever put on quite right or maybe it has moved a bit over the last 18 months. I hate to take it to the dealer for what should be a fairly simple adjustment.

Would spraying the track with silicone spray help it slide?

  • The awning material in top bracket on side of rig is held in place with a screw in track on both ends of awning....

BUT the awning material can shift in the grove on the roller end.

Open awning fully and check distance between edge of awning material and end of roller on both ends.
They need to be same distance for awning material to roll up even.
If awning material has shifted garb fabric with one hand and then push on end of roller with other hand (from the side where fabric is farthest away from end of roller) until even.

Then install a self taping short fat round head screw next to edge of fabric on each end of roller in the grove.
  • There should be a small sheet metal screw on one end of the awning where it is attached to the side wall. Remove the screw, and move the fabric about 1/32 of an inch and try it. Very small increments is the secret. At least that's what I have been told.
