Awning Protection

I finally got around to cleaning my roof this year and noticed that that the 6 " Eternabond tape that I placed on the top of the awning 4 years ago to protect it from the sun was missing. I would not have believed that stuff could blow off but it did. Has anyone had any luck with a paint or other product on their awning?
  • I have yet to use, but the consensus seems to be IF you properly prep and apply the stuff it wont come off. Did you thoroughly clean the awning surface, and use a hand roller to make sure it had a good bond?

BTW I am thinking of doing the same to protect the top of my awning when in storage.
  • I just replaced my awning, as it was failing where the sun was hitting it while rolled up and stored.
So now, during non use, I went down the the local Big Box hardware store (Home Depot) and got 2 sections of their plastic rain gutter. It slips over the rolled up awning, and the lip actually snaps into the aluminum attach along the body of the 5th wheel.
I'm thinking this will take most all of the abuse, at least during storage. And for $4 each section.

When I head out, just slip the sections off the rolled up awning, and off I go.

Great solution. I've also read about people that get some light-walled PVC and split it length-wise to do the same thing.

If you have info on =exactly= what you got, I'm sure a lot of people here would appreciate know that.

+2 - been doing the same for years. Works great and seldom blows off.

    Any chance of posting pics??
  • Check out Awning Pro Tech. It is what your looking for to cover your awnings. They are expensive but they can give you an idea of what to do to cover them.
  • I did the rain gutter from Home Depot. Thanks for the tip.
