Awning question

In AZ a wet awning only stays wet for about 30 seconds in the summer. Rolled, about 2 minutes. :-)

Really you all unroll and dry out if it gets wet! Wow what do you do if it is raining when you break camp? What do you do if rains on the tow home? Cover to keep it dry, mine rolls so that the edge at the trailer goes out over the roller (like all the rest) so it sheds rain. I use the 5er year round so pull it out and rinse/wash off from time to time.

My awning on a 2010 5th wheel STINKS from water that gets between the layers. Once mold/mildew has gotten started, there is no way to stop it other than keeping it dry. Or clean it all the time. I store my trailer at a place that has trailers & motor homes so close, you can't open up the awning. So when we go camping, it's unpleasant and embarrassing. Pretty much, we don't use it, but we would like to.

So I ordered covers via Amazon yesterday, as described below.

RV Awning Covers, Awning Pro-Tech 5 Piece Kit (BLEM), UV Resistant, Snap-on cover for RV Patio awning $89.99 plus $17 shipping.

The same size, for up to 20 ft. wide awning, is about $120 from the manufacturer. Reviews say it's hard to tell what the blemishes are, and harder still to care.

Obviously, I can't say this will work miracles, it won't even arrive until next Tuesday. But the reviews are good, and it looks good to me. So I plan to really clean the awning at the next opportunity, and use the covers thereafter.

I just built a cover out of two vinyl rain gutters from Lowes, actually got the idea off RV.Net. When parked at the house I climb up on top of RV and lay this cover over my stowed awning and it keeps it dry and the sun off of it. Just have to remember to remove it before heading out. Works great. Travel on.

Open it up,let it dry out,roll it back in.
To clean one,wet it down soap it up with a little Dawn and water.
Roll it back up again to soak for a half hour,open it up,rinse,let it dry,
roll it back up. Now you will have earned a "cold one" of your choice.

Magic erasers with very little rubbing will clean any awning stain.... Just be. Careful not to rub too hard... And I keep mine closed until I see it dirty when camping , at that time when I get back home I unroll it , clean it , let it dry , roll it back up...no sense keeping it out all the time , just more of a target for birds and such...Joe

We try to open ours to dry out, and when we don't mold does start to grow, and it's not one of my favorite things to scrub....but it does come off.

open it up if it's not windy.

If it were mine I would open and let dry thoroughly to prevent mildew & mold. Easier to unroll than scrub to get clean again. :)
