Axle needed URGENT HELP

Hi There

We have those Dexter Nev R Lube axles on a Excel 5er. Today after driving 25 miles we stopped at store and then noticed smoke coming out of one of the wheels. Thought the brakes were stuck on, moved very slowly off the road to a parking lot. As we turned in the parking the lot the wheel began to come completely off so we stopped and called Good Sam. The local garage came and we need a new complete axle with hubs and brakes etc.
Callled Dexter and they do not keep any axles in stock everyone is made to order, will take 10 days to get to us. Don't fancy camping in a parking lot for that long, and we don't have enough water on board either, the garage can not move us too dangerous.

We are trying to source an axle from elsewhere and will drive to wherever to collect if we can find one we can buy off the shelf.

We need either an Ez Lube or the old fashion type grease it by taking the wheel off etc, never want a Nev r Lube again.

Size needed is 80" hub face and 62" from centre of spring.
We live in our RV full time and are touring the states from the UK, our Visas expire soon so time is short.
Can any one help with any info on where we might locate this size. We have been searching the internet but the size is an issue so far, and all the places that will make you one need at least 7 days to built it.
Thanks Guys

Julie & Alan
  • You don't need a complete axle. All you need is a backing plate or hub assembly. For example...click here. Or Backing plate assembly

They'll ship Over night and you'll be on the road by Thursday. Probably less than $400 Total.

Forget the axle assembly and get only what you need. Replacing an axle needs attention to alignment. If the alignment goes off you'll be replacing tires in 2000 miles.
  • Last time he posted he gave a general itinerary of his trip. So going by that he's somewhere in the New England states ...I know big area...but needs to be in Louisiana by end Oct.
    Hope he gets help.
  • I am in NE Georgia, not close I don't think, but if I can help, please let me know. You would be welcome to stay at my house until the trailer is repaired.
  • Did you try COLAW RV salvage. They may have one in stock

  • Google redneck trailer , state trailer supply. they stock dexter axles. They have many locations maybe one near you.
A welding shop can replace the damaged spindle while on the trailer. you should be able to get the assembly from a supplier or the mfgr. overnight.
Dexter fixed mine on xmas eve. '09 at Kroft trailer in Blue Springs, Missouri
  • Seems that you might post the weight rating of the old axel too.
