Battery Level and Filler

[img][/img]

My battery box is very crowded with 4 six volt batteries. I had to remove everything to check the water level. I finally got tired of this and worked up this solution using scrap plastic fitting. The unit sits on the fill hole with a VOM meter attached to the leads. If the cell is not full it reads no continuity. I use a WalMart turkey baster to fill the cell until I get a continuity reading. My battery fill level in 1 inch below the top of the battery case, and that's where the two probes reach. Just thought I'd share if anyone else has this problem.
  • Neat idea:)
Now you have to teach DW how to take care of it, so you can sit back and have a beer:B
  • Time to patent the idea and sell it to auto and RV manufacturers. Could be an on dash warning like tire pressure and an addition to the holding tank indicators. Now's your chance to make your million.

    To late....just did it!:)
  • I already have a couple of patents. They are nearly useless because of the amount of money it takes to defend them.
  • I'd be worried about igniting the hydrogen gasses when connecting the Multimeter. Bang!
  • Can also use a plastic bottle with a large diameter screw-on cap. Drill a hole in the cap, insert a small length of plastic tubing in the hole (snug airtight fit), fill bottle with distilled water and screw on the cap. Adjust the length of the plastic tubing to allow the proper amount of water to enter, then put the bottle upside-down over each hole. The water flow will stop when the water level rises to the end of the hose. Use a small diameter hose for less spillage.
  • I use a small siphon hose with the bulb for priming, Hang the jug w/bungee ball on cross arm for landing gear and a clip on LED light that hooks onto my cap. Added a fishing sinker to the hose so it will stay in bottom of jug
  • My problem is that I have only 4 inches clearance between the battery top and the battery box and I can't see the fluid level without removing the batteries. Mirrors etc. don't work. I can't picture how TakingtheFirth's system works. If I could use it in my tight quarters situation could, you please make a sketch?
