- roller183ExplorerI was E/B I-40 in Cali desert area a few years ago and saw a Dodge dually QC flipped on its roof by a bumper pull trailer. The trailer had the Dually pinned up ward in the air. Trailer was max 30'..I'm now in the "push the envelope" club as I downsized to a 2500 RAM 4x4 CC etc.from a dually You'll see me no faster then 65 on any Az freeway and much slower S/B on I-17 in the "goof ball" area between sunset point and Black Canyon city. This area of I-17 is CRAZY on Sundays in the summer with RV's BLASTING downhill like snow skier's...

I can't believe that the ball hitch doesn't break away with that kind of torque.
That's why I won't have a tongue pull.No such thing as "Too much truck"
I saw a trailer on its side, "A frame" twisted and holding the tow vehicle about 3 feet off the ground. They were trying to figure out how to release the truck without damaging it, it was drivable. I am impressed how well the ball hitch holds. - bkirkpatrickExplorer

There are even big warning signs in both directions to that effect. I know with my bumper pull toyhauler I feel it a lot worse than I did with my previous fifthwheel and know to watch my speed in that area where you go in and out of cuts in the hills that funnel the air around the canyons.

Yeah, people are nuts. A few years ago I was in my car doing 80 (me too sometimes) going from Phoenix to Payson when I was passed by a F350 pulling a large FW (at least 35 ft.)! My guess he was doing at least 85 as he quickly left me behind. He was going up hill at the time so don't know how fast he went on the down hill parts. That hiway is in excellent condition and 4 lane all the way but really!
Was that you??? :B - butchfuzionExplorerYeah, people are nuts. - spindriftExplorerThis needs to stop. I'm not at all about regulation but the RV rigs I see on the road make my jaw drop. Have no idea if it's the fault of the salesman or imagined high levels of testosterone in the buyer. I couldn't give a crap. What I can tell you is that these people are a threat to me and my family. As much as I hate to say it, there needs to be some kind of effective inspection system. Maybe at the time of sale which would make the dealer liable.

I try to have a sense of humor...but, as an RV'er I'm having a hard time seeing this as funny.
I guess I'm just no fun.
The article states that there were only minor injuries. At least that part is good.
NOT TRYING TO MAKE ANY HUMOR OF A WRECK
I have seen many wrecks, anyone of Us can have a bad day and NO VEHICLE is exempt from crashing.
Just had a salesman tell me that I could tow a 9K dry/13K max GVWR with one of the newer 1/2 ton trucks, there is where the problem lies.
There are many out there who do not know anything about towing and take the salesman's word and buy way too much rig for their truck.
Just saying !! - 64thunderboltExplorer III live in the valley and regularly tow up & back. Like I said in my previous post, almost all I see wheels up on that hwy is a tongue pull usually pulled by a truck that's not enough for the size trailer. Some uneducated people depend on a sales person to tell them "yes you can tow this trailer with your truck" When the sales person may have never towed at all. It's sad but a reality. Having yrs in a semi told me to go with a 5er or stay home.
- fly-boyExplorerThat is a wicked pull up or down from Phoenix to Prescott.
The reality is that an incident like that could happen to any of us- The guy driving that rig could have been well within all of his weights/specs etc. He could also be the very best driver in the world and saved lives because he kept it on the road etc.
When I see this stuff I am always just glad it was not me.
