Bed Orientation Pros & Cons

It depends on how the bed it configured in the room. We looked at a few TH's that had the bed E/W with the bed against the front wall. So if the person in the front (her) gets up, they have to crawl over the other (me). I prefer N/S in non-slide TH's.

I'm with Carl and those above him. I purposely shopped for a floorplan with a N/S layout. Not only for colder trips but hot ones as well. The siding on most slide is black aluminum and it's like sleeping in a toaster if your in a site without shade. No night stands and less room to walk around the bed are other negatives. We've had both and really like N/S better...

For the reasons the two posters above mentioned, I prefer the N/S layout.

Unless you have a fairly large slide in a E/W configuration you are eliminating night stands/end tables...which was a deal breaker for us. Got to have a place to charge the phone, a glass of water and a clock...at least for us we do. ;)

We had East / West and despised it.

It's very cold in the winter: we had to put special insulation under the part of the bed that stuck out and put insulation to block the icy cold coming off the windows.

I really didn't like heavy rain hitting the slide 24" above my head - very disruptive to my sleep.

We now have a North / South and it's vastly better for us. Voltage 3950.

I like the east/west layout for the breeze but we don't have a slide so there is no walk around. So my wife hates it because she has to crawl over me to get up in the middle of the night.

I would say that's pretty important, ease of getting in/out.

I like the east/west layout with windows at both e/w ends for a nice cross breeze.

On those cool crisp winter nites in the dunes its awesome to sleep with those windows cracked open and get a good cross breeze right over you all nite.I sleep great like that...

I would think whichever way gave me the most floorspace in the bedroom would work for me. I've had three N/S and one E/W. Wasn't a big deal but the E/W did have some nice room in there for getting dressed, etc.

Ours is E/W and after a year of full-timing I cannot imagine any advantage to N/S. Get the overall bedroom layout that you like best.

I prefer the N/S version. The E/W version is additional work/weight on the slide operation. We have enough problems with the slides, don't need to look for any more trouble.
