We did a little research on the Grand Design. Much of what they had to offer seemed pretty good....but, they use the notoriously problematic Lippert components.
Lippert is the leading OEM of RV components. I think their past reputation unfortunately has stuck whereas their quality as vastly improved.
I would love to believe that to be true, but, in following several RV forums and Facebook Groups .....this dosen’t seem to be the case!
Lipperts quality has vastly improved??????
That sure is breaking news LOL.
Only one thing is going to make Lipperts or the Industry as a whole improve quality and that is when they get an economic kick in the teeth. Even then don't get all excited and expect much. That day is overdue. The recession ended in June of 09.....its been 9 years. The US has never went more than 10 years between recessions, and only has done that once. Borrowed time. They are going to ride out the good times by sucking every dime from the RV buying suckers that they can. Wish in one hand...**** in the other.
Well being 65 years old I have to say I've seen all kinds of economic forecasts over the years and I've come to the conclusion that most don't come true. What used to be normal isn't any more.
I can't, nor won't, argue with that goducks but I will say if you look at the cyclical nature of the RV Industry, they've been on a fairly good run for a good amount of time. When it tanks, and it will, as it always has eventually, the retiring boomer cash, that is their current livelihood, is what is going to dry up first and in a hurry. The whole Industry is structured on reaction. Proactivity is not in the playbook.
I won't deny a down turn is coming and as history has shown it's over due. Everyone seems to be jumping on the 'Worst crash ever' bandwagon. I guess we won't know until it gets here. If we do have a big crash I still don't think that will make the RV industry change gears. I'm not convinced that they want to flip things around and go a different way. It would cost millions to retool and without incoming revenue from poor sales during a crash or even several year after, I think they'll just continue with business as usual.
