I'm aware one can put one's phone number in the ad that way, but for myself, I don't want my phone number in a craigslist ad in any form. I prefer to screen interested prospects first via email before deciding whether to give my phone number. Personally, I don't want my phone ringing all the time, so am restrictive about giving my number out.
To each his own, everyone does things a little bit differently.
FWIW, one does have the option of using Google Voice and establishing a dedicated phone number just for use on Craiglist or other more public/online venues where you don't want to advertise your personal cell number. Totally free. You can receive or place calls using your GV number using your primary cell phone (requires the GV app). GV will also accept texts and voice mails (also translates VM'S to text). Bottom line, you're isolated. If things do get out of hand for any reason, I believe it only costs 10 to establish another GV number. I've been using GV for many years---works great!
