Best time to purchase

OK guys,
Laurie and I are getting very close to purchasing our new 5er. We've been researching this for nearly 6 months, talked to dealers, and even rented a 35' camper for 3 days to make sure we'd appreciate the luxury. We do!
So the truck we're going to get is a Ford F-350 but we're staying with a single axle since this will be my everyday truck during the work week.
We've decided on the Grand Design Solitude 320X. We've just finished the first of 3 RV shows we will be attending in January. We're doing this to make sure we ask all the right questions as well as to get a multitude of opinions and sales pitches. The journey has been a blast but it's now time to lay down the cash. So the question is, do we buy at the show, wait until after the season rush, or wait until later in the year to get the best deal?

  • The best time to buy is when you can use your new rig. Let me explain:

Buying a new rig in the dead of winter then storing it until Spring unused is not a good idea.

    >>You waste many months of warranty time.
    >>You don't find out immediately what needs fixing and by the time you do, the dealer is harder to deal with for repairs.

Can't tell you how many times I have read about someone who bought a new rig, parked it for months on end. Then in the Spring, planned their trips, un-stored their rig and found lots of stuff that needed dealer attention to fix. Spring time, the dealer is busy and couldn't get to it....vacation ruined.
  • My thought is the best time to buy is December,January February.
The RV business is dead at this point and dealers are willing to make a bargain sale just for the cash flow. I also suggest ordering your unit to get it exactly the way you want it.
If you are not real particular you could also get a deal on a unit on the lot. Although what's on the lot maybe a left over.
Shows are generally during the beginning/middle of the season when there are lots of buyers available vs. during the winter where there are no buyers available.
Do your research and know exactly what you want and how you want it equipped.
Get past the sales pitch stage. Talk strictly price. Email 3-4 dealers both local and distant. Let them compete for your business. Don't play games with them. Let them know you are a serious buyer be prepared to pull the trigger.
The technique worked for me. We got down to bottom line price real quick.
No sales pitches or gimmicks required. I told them what I wanted and the dealer placed the order.

Wow....I havent seen many Three Axle F-350's........L.O.L.

    I assume you mean S.R.W....?????

The BEST TIME to buy is......
Late Summer,Trying to get rid of Inventory,
    Winter Old Inventory around,
    Spring...New Models coming out ,
    Summer...dealer ordered many,sold few..

So,you see...The Best time,Is when YOU get the deal that sounds right to you.:W
  • Difficult to say. Off season (winter) is generally a good time to purchase. That is when we have purchased our rigs. End of the season can generate some bargains as dealers try to reduce inventory. I am not convinced an RV show will guarantee a good price. It works for some but not everyone. Sounds like you have done your homework. Frankly...I would go with the price you think is fair and what you are willing to pay. Sometimes playing the shopping game can work against you.
