For what you are planning I would suggest you look at a Ford F450.
Why not just get a Ram 3500, matched to the F450 for at least two years in FLT test.
Cummins9812V, just went froma 2011 Ram 3500 towing a DVR, at about 27,000# GCVW. Now with a 2015 with a larger DVR at 29,000# GCVW and no issue.
Cummins/Asia is a true Medium duty truck combination, those that go to 36,000#.
FACT, RAM is SAE J2807 rated to tow a combined 37,900#, the other two just make claims with no independent testing to back them up.. Has the strongest auto with the Aisin. A true medium duty trans with the dependable true medium duty Cummins. the 13 and newer RAM trucks are truly amazing. The rear air ride is really nice. Maintains the exact same ride height no matter what the load up to rear axle rating. Pic below with the 15 RAM hooked to 07 MS with over 5K pin.
I tow the West Coast all the time, just set the cruise control go up the passes and down with ease. The exhaust brake is awesome!
Do your self a favor and test drive one.
This combo will scale at about 31K.
I think your a full of it, I don't beleave you use cruise control
going up the passes on the west coast with a 5th wheel of that
size with ease. I'd like to know how fast you are going do to
the fact I have followed and passed many Dodge's with fifth wheels
over the passes out here doing 45mph, thus I don't beleave you
cruise control is on
VERY NICE! "I think your a full of it"
You tell me, every singly pass between Canada and Mexico along I-5 I ran 55mph with my 11 HO RAM Dually 3:42's with a 29K combined load. There is a spot at Grants Pass where it would drop to 53 for a short distance and northbound coming to the Ashland pass summit the same other than that 55 or more. Cruise control on or not it makes no difference. I expect to do much better with the new 15 with 4:10's and more HP and TQ even with the new RV in tow combined will be easily over 30K.
I can tell you no one with a RV the size and combined weight has passed me. Does not mean there is not someone who can.
West bound hwy 20 Cascade pass 47mph, that is very steep!
Maybe next time ask someone to explain.
Thanks
Just looked in my log book, westbound I-90 coming up from the Columbia River on Vantage pass 58mph.
I'm glad you said : That no one has passed you, but that does not mean that there is not someone that can, because the other two GM , and Ford will out tow you in the mountains. But like you I like the new Rams ,but I didn't buy it to be first to the top, because I won't be.
