I am on my second set of BFG Commercial T/A tires on my 5th wheel. I've been pleased with the tires but I have just experienced two thread separations on my current set. The DOT date of manufacture shows tires to be about 4 1/2 years old, and I was getting close to putting on a new set. Now I'm concerned if this is still a good choice.
While they are not the quality Of Michelins, they have always seemed to be a good choice for the money. Have the quality of these tires changed?
I was a fan of BFGs for decades until I had a 75% failure rate on 2 sets of tires for my truck. First set was E rated 265/75R-16 Long Trail TAs, second set were the same in the Rugged Trail. Had a full tread separation on one tire from each set after only about 30k miles and 3-4 years. According to Discount Tire, at least one other tire from each set was showing signs of imminent tread separation, as well. I'm now running a set of Cooper Discoverers. Never owned Coopers before, so we'll see.
