I have a set of Michelin XDS2 commercial tires. 245/70 R19.5 16 ply, Load range H, up to 220 PSI. Our camper is an AFox 811. There is tons of tread left on these (all tires with approx. same tread wear if not identical). However these are 7 years old now and I am wondering if anyone has run tires like this beyond the recommended 7 year lifespan ??

Well they’re not 220psi tires, but aside from that, it’s more about the condition of the tires than the age, at only 7 years old. 7 years parked in the sun in Arizona = throw them away, yesterday. 7 years with fairly regular use but parked in a garage in Ontario likely means they have more years left in them. I wouldn’t even think about replacing them if they haven’t seen an inordinate amount of UV exposure and aren’t showing any signs of dry rot.

Running 75mph + consistently on the open road. I’d trade a brand new set of those tires for your old 19.5s, today, and be even more confident!As long as they aren’t dry rotted.Note, you can’t see some dry rot on fully inflated tires. Try this. Deflate one of the tires on the truck until almost flat and see if there’s any cracking in the bottom part where the tire is flexed. If not, good to go.

I replaced mine after 7 years and 60k+ miles even though the tires still had good tread. I look at this as preventive maintenance and factor in the cost of camping. My truck sits outdoors and is not sheltered in a garage but the weather is mild on rubber in area. If it was garaged, I would be willing to run them longer.

It depends on how the tires are used. Obviously, tires that are near their load limit continuously have more stress on them than those that are not.

I've also heard the 6 year number for RVs. As noted, it's worth it to me to replace the tires early, but I also don't go cheap on tires either. So, I'm probably "wasting" money on those better tires, too. :D

I was referring to the same use ( commercial or rv ) between 19.5 and LT tires .

Why would you expect one to age better than the other? Is the rubber more special-er in med duty tires?

It depends on how the tires are used. Obviously, tires that are near their load limit continuously have more stress on them than those that are not.

The OP truck is a F350 srw.. more along the line of the same truck we use in commercial service carrying same heavy loads in the bed.

If swapping tires at 6/7 years regardless of condition makes it easier to sleep at night, great. Tire manufacturers support a 10 year discard timeframe with proper care and annual inspections after 7.

I only do 6 years on my vehicles. Tires are relatively cheap compared to the aftermath and/or being stranded by a catastrophic failure.

The problem is tires can still fail even though the look fine if the tread separates from the carcass.
