Bird nest in the pin-box

..a cheap solution .... readily available in Spring/Summer.
Cram an inexpensive inflatable beach ball (sized appropriately)
in the pin box opening. I insert one in my chimney just
before the start of air conditioning seasoning. (leave it
visible as a reminder it is there...).

might work.

Great suggestions! We camped mid-April and no birds nest then. I am surprised I never heard about this since it seems very common.

You need to get out camping earlier in the season :)

I just stuff an old, large towel in the opening.

I cleaned out a nest, and there was a new one WITH EGGS just a few days later.

That was the third nest episode, which is why I used Gorilla tape over the openings.

I once used Gorilla tape on the top of my pin box to keep some wires from flapping in the wind, and a year later the tape was in good shape despite several thousand miles of travel. That's why I think it'll last several years on the bottom of the pin box.

Clear out the nest and it's not likely they will return THIS YEAR.

I filled mine in with Styrofoam.

I covered the openings with Gorilla tape. Goes on easy, it's black so self-camouflaging, and being out of the direct sun, it should last for several years.

We also had the same issue. We use the large bubble wrap and stuff it in the opening of the pin box. Now they have gotten smarter. They tried to make a nest on top of our outside light. It's been an ongoing fight to see who wins, me or the birds. :W
