Ah, if it were only that easy. What if your phone doesn't have that feature? Mine doesn't.
So what if you don't have your phone handy? Or the battery is dead? Or you go to get your phone, get distracted and forget you left the water on? Or in the process of setting the timer, you drop the phone, crack the screen, and forget you've got the water on? Any one of a million things can affect the outcome.

You sound like some of the "What if the sky falls" building inspectors I used to work with.
But hey we all have opinions.
I have insurance for the "what if" and I use commonsense to avoid doing a "oops"
