Wow, what bad luck!
Are you using the rail mount Andersen or are you using the gooseneck mount hitch?
also, can you post a pic of your hitch coupled to the fiver? There are some Andersen users who may be able to help you.
As far as a slider hitch is concerned...it would not have helped you. I have never heard of a single user sliding their non sliding hitch back just to make a random right hand turn.
The only thing that would have saved your window is an AutoSliding hitch such as the PullRite Superglide or a Reese Sidewinder set up. Of course folks are going to say be more careful...but sometimes you really need that right turn.
