I a bit surprised that you hit just going forward. Many have said that the truck will not turn sharp enough for that to happen. I have a 2015 3500 SRW SB 4x4 RAM with a B&W manual slider. I bolted the uprights for the hitch head in the rear position and have only done three test tows so far of 100 miles each. End of the week we are off to Arizona and my plan is/was at the registration check in area to slide the hitch to the rear and at check out slide it forward. I will have to watch it at other times now!
Lots of people told me to get the B&W RVK3600 or Andersen and set it to the rear most position! I am glad I chose to at least get the manual slider.

Chris, OP was making a U type turn going forward in a parking lot. I think in most cases just turning at an intersection, most would not hit. With the FW always cutting to the inside, during a turn, it will cut sharper fast, in a continuing turn, such as the OPs situation.
Sorry for your damage OP!
Jerry
Well OP didn't state clearly that he was making a U turn, but it sounds a bit like a U Turn, or very tight turn in a Parking lot.

OUCH! :S
Don't know about the house fire, but seven accidents in three years (not your fault), surprised your insurance hasn't suggested a defensive driving class. That is a lot of in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Not sure how the insurance in your area works, but when my daughter had some one run a stop sign on her, they didn't have insurance, our collision paid less our deductible. It was about a year later we relieved a check from our insurance company for the deductible, they had collected for the other driver. So it is possible your insurance company when after the others and got reimbursed.
