We have the air bed sofa. I agree it's a bit of a pain. I prefer not having guests either (except family). So maybe it's a good fit. I have seen sofas in newer units that fold out and use the sofa cushions as the mattress. I have no idea how comfortable they are. But I like the idea. No matter what you use, you have to tear it all down each morning and set it all up again at night - if you plan on using the living room. I don't particularly like mine, but I don't have enough motivation to change it because it still works.
