Blowout issues

Do you read about many people having blow outs on their tow vehicles? Junky chinese tires are the problem.

Or people having "blowouts" of their spare that's < 2 years old and have never been on the road. Just cheap-@ss junk, for the most part.

We have had one blowout in like the last 30 years. It was a 10 year old Copper tire on our 89 F250, and it had a lot of miles in that ten years.

Getting ready to replace the LT's on our 5er as they are OEM and 12 years old. Just starting to show age cracking around the bead.

I've had two blow outs in the past year on two different sets of tires. Both less than 5 years old, around 50,000 miles. Both Michelin LTX M/S2's. Theres a recall on these types of tires but mine weren't included. Bad dry rot on one set. No trouble with other Michelin's over the decades.

Also had a two blow outs years ago on a Carlisle ST on a tent trailer. Back then Carlisle's were notorious for such issues.

Because it isn't road hazards. It's junk tires. The st tires are notorious for blow outs. My son has a Rockwood 5500 lb TT. Two years ago I replaced all the bearings and he took it to Discount for a set of new Carlisle recommended by them. He also wisely bought the warranty. Within a few months he had 2 blow outs. The second summer he had two more blow outs. He doesn't drive over 65 and keeps an eye on the pressure. These are supposed to be the new and improved Carlisles. They are rated at 1,870 lb x 4 = 7,480 and they cant carry 5,500 for a few months?

I bought a new single axle utility trailer rated at 3500 lb. It has some strange name Chinese tires rated at 1800 or so. I was hesitant to pull it across the country but it does have a few advantages that may let them live longer.

I drive 60 mph and never over 65
Always travel during cooler temps
Dont have the side shear forces of a tandem axle trailer
Only loaded at about 2,500 lbs

Fingers are crossed and at about 5,500 miles.

I would never think of pulling my FW without having 16 inch LT's on it.

Maybe because when people give up on cheap junk ST tires and install quality LT tires they report that their tire issues ended?

I saw a spare tire that was mounted on the rear bumper of a 5th wheel and covered with a nice cover. The tire blew up on the bumper and blew out a hole in the cover. Cheap Chinese junk. I run only LT tires on my trailers and have never had a problem.

The first thing I did to our new toy hauler pictured below was to put 6 Michelin XPS Ribs truck tires on it. Cost me $2100 but well worth it. No tire problems in 3 years. The cheap Chinese tires that were taken off had gone from the Indiana plant to Tucson AZ and looked about worn out.

What road hazard will trigger my entire tread to come off?
Tire was still holding air just fine when I changed it.

If a truck has a 12k GVWR with 6 tires and a 2 axle trailer has the same axle weight with 4 tires and less suspension travel and cheap tires....

I think it is more than just "junk tires". I've had at least 4 tread separations (including one last year) on my 5er since I bought it new in 2002. It has LT tires. That are not "junk Chinese". It is stored inside. I've never had tires that are over 6 years old. And I check the tire pressure before every trip.

I have never had a tread separation on a car/truck/suv. And those get a lot more miles.
