We are running Power King/Tow Max tires on our 33 ft. KZ 5th wheel toy hauler. It has duel axles. We bought our trailer new in 2006. The GVWR on the trailer is 13600 lbs. Actual weight of the trailer is 9170 lbs.When we load it with our Harley Tri-Glide, water, propane, food and clothes, we figure we are at about 12000 lbs.We always run at 80 psi, and have an electronic monitor on the tires to keep an eye on them going down the road. The reason I'm writing is, we have had many blowouts on this trailer and don't know what to do. We had the axles changed in 2010 from 6000 lbs. to 7000 lbs. because they were bent and now they are straight and in alignment. The dealer (who is no longer in business) suggested not putting 80 psi in the tires which is stamped on the tires. Cheap chinese tires upgrade to LT tires and be done with your problems, if you have 7000 pound axles up grade to 17.5 inch tires.

I run Tow Max tires and they have been trouble free so far. If the hauler is 12,000 pounds and you have about 20 percent on the pin then the tires and axles are carrying 9600 pounds spread over two axles and four tires. Each axle (in a perfect world) would be carrying 4800 pounds and each tire about 2400 pounds, well under the axle and tire capacities. Perhaps one axle is substantially heavier than the other and those tires are carrying more weight. I would get each axle weighed loaded and ready to go and see what the real weights are and then go from there. Some on these fourms like Maxxis tires, others use LT's. There are options available but I think getting real weight numbers would be a good first start to know what each axle and tire is carrying. I have a friend that had a KZ 33P and after five years of trying different tire approaches that fifth never really quit having tire issues for some reason.

Never rely on posted weights of trailers....guessing will lead to trouble...take the trailer to a scale, with what you normally carry and have it weighed. I bet you will be amazed at how much more the trailer weighs....eliminate guesswork..then go from there on tires.....usually load range E, 10 ply will carry most loads

If you have already straightened out your axles...you many be running heavier than you think. Weigh the rig, and then either get your weight in line with your tires and axles or vice versa. Either way, towmax are junk. G rated tires will max load at 110 psi and the primary brand for trailer use seems to be Goodyear G-614. You have to ensure that your wheels are rated for 110 psi before making the switch...if not you will have to upgrade your wheels.

Replace with good LT tires. Rarely do you see a comment about a blowout with LT tires. Not so with STs.

If you go the route of going to the 110# 16" tires, and need new wheels too, seriously take a look at upgrading to the 17.5 wheels and tires. You will have almost as much cost in the HD 16" tires and wheels, and get a VERY GOOD setup.

Correct. It refers to dual, as in two tires side by side on the same wheel hub.

I'd also recommend upgrading to LT tires.

At least you already have 16" wheels, so it's less expensive to proceed with the ST to LT conversion.

I had 15" wwhels on my Desert Fox, so the upgrade to LTs required new wheels.
