Blue Ox BedSaver with Hensley BD3?

After reading some recent posts on owners dropping 5th wheels on their beds I am seriously considering the Blue Ox BedSaver. I have found a few sites that advertise one for the Hensley BD3 TrailerSaver hitch. I am curious if anyone is using the two together and can offer any feedback.

Does it fit well, cause other interference issues, etc.

Thanks,
OJ
  • after hitching, take a look at the little lever with the spring on. if the handle is back and the lever with the spring is "in" that hitch is locked. I think it is impossible to do it wrong. (But I may be wrong, someone can always screw things up.)

If one equates dropping a fifth wheel with the Reese hitch, then one is really not incorrect.

I am not saying Reese is a bad hitch. On the contrary, it is a very good hitch.

But it certainly has a larger learning and use curve compared to other hitches. Learning as in exact proper hitch up, and use, in having to do pull test and other extra work. Reese is just unforgiving when it comes to not doing all things right.

That said, the Binkley head on the Hensley BD 3 is not nearly as fussy as a Reese.

Most bed damage I have seen over the years have a Reese or similar hitch with the "high handle".

I would not waste the money with a bed saver on a Hensley or B&W.

  • I agree with STRIPIT, the Binkley head and a good pull test with roto-chocks in place and you should be good to go.
  • With the Binkley head on that hitch it is darn near impossible to high hitch or have the pin come out without you wanting it to. Once those jaws are locked your hooked up till you pull the release lever.
