I recommend a 1 ton SRW. My fiver in signature below weighs 12280 loaded with a 2400 lb pin weight. I had a 3/4 truck and was exceeding the truck payload (gvwr) by 500 lbs when loaded up so I moved to a 1 ton and am now within all safe specs of the truck.
x2! Especially if you're looking at trucks of that age. Payloads from 2000 to 2015 are =way= different. At 12k+ lbs, a diesel would serve you better unless you're just a weekend warrior and not tackling any serious mountains or grades. On a slider, can go either way. If you get a 4x4, its turning radius is pretty likely to be wider than a 2wd, so you may not need it. I can NOT hit at full lock, right or left, with my very square front Komfort and my '02 D'max CC SWB 4x4. ALL will hit when backing up; the slider just makes it later rather than sooner. Any number of posts where people say they bought one, then never used it and wished they'd saved the money. If you're hitch-shopping, give serious consideration to the B&W Companion line. Best out there and backed by an outstanding company.
